'Hail Poetry' is from the finale of Act 1 of Gilbert & Sullivan's comic operetta 'The Pirates of Penzance'. Pirates opened at the Fifth Avenue Theatre, New York on 31 December 1879. It became a smash hit both sides of the Atlantic and remains today one of the most popular G & S operettas.
